How to choose the right gate automation for you

Understand a few key features that make a big difference.

Materials

Most gate operators are made from steel or aluminium. Steel is a stronger, more durable option, but it’s heavier than aluminium. Steel is typical for heavy security gates, while other applications choose aluminium for its lighter weight.

Duty cycles

This refers to how many times your gate operator can open and close before they need to take a break. We use the terms “high”, “medium”, and “low” to define our duty cycles, with “high” duty cycles being suitable for commercial use, and “medium” and “low” being suitable for residential or infrequent use in a commercial setting.

Time to 90 degrees

For swing gate automation systems and boom gate systems, time to 90 degrees refers to how long the gate will take to open all the way. Boom gates can be under 3 seconds, while swing gates will generally be slower at around 10 seconds or more.

Gate speed

For sliding gates, the gate speed will be measured in metres per minute or millimetres per second.
